Dr. Greg Ceyhan of Aesthetic Dentistry of Arrowhead:
“Hi, I’m Dr. Greg Ceyhan from Aesthetic Dentistry of Arrowhead in Glendale, Arizona, and that’s in the Arrowhead area. A retainer is just a device or an appliance that we put in patient’s mouth. Sometimes, it’s bonded in their mouth, sometimes it’s something that they take in and out. But it’s meant to hold the teeth in their final position after they’ve been straightened.
It’s really important for patients to wear retainers. It’s recommended that they wear them for life, so that they can keep their teeth in that final position. A lot of patients, they’ll discontinue wearing their retainers after a period of time. And what will happen is, they’ll get a relapse and their teeth will actually start to shift, they’ll get crooked again.”
